Yassir Zabiri calls Camp Nou goal for Racing Santander against Barcelona an ‘unbelievable’ career moment

Morocco striker Yassir Zabiri says scoring at Camp Nou against Barcelona fulfilled a dream for both him and his family, despite Racing Santander suffering a 7-2 defeat in the sixth round of the Spanish league.

“It was an enormous, unbelievable joy to play at Camp Nou against Barcelona,” Zabiri told Spanish newspaper Sport.

The 22-year-old added that scoring made the occasion even more significant because his family had been watching from home.

“The feeling is even greater when I score, especially for my family who were watching me on television,” he said. “I am extremely proud because this was my dream and my family’s dream. We are achieving it while I am still young, but I have to work harder to make my voice heard.”

The goal took Zabiri’s tally for Racing Santander this season to six, making him the club’s leading scorer. He is level with Roberto Fernandez of Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano forward Sergio Camello at the top of the scoring charts.

Barcelona’s victory left them top of the Spanish league with 18 points from six matches, while Racing Santander remained on seven points in 10th place.

Zabiri, who joined Racing Santander and has become their leading scorer, has also been included in Morocco’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying matches.

Morocco will face Gabon and Lesotho in the qualifying campaign. Their match against Gabon is scheduled for Friday, 25 September, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

They will then play Lesotho on 29 September in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Morocco are also due to face Ghana in a friendly on 4 October in Tangier.

Zabiri said he was already familiar with the Spanish league and valued the experience of playing in it.

“I know this league well and playing in it is wonderful,” he said. “It is a very strong league, it offers good football, and I enjoy watching Spanish league matches a lot.”
