Racing Santander boss says Barcelona wanted to ‘tear his team apart’ after 7-2 victory

Racing Santander manager Jose Alberto Lopez said Barcelona’s players wanted to “tear apart” his side after their 7-2 win in La Liga.

Barcelona secured a convincing victory in the sixth round of the Spanish league season at Camp Nou, scoring seven times against the visitors.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, Lopez said: “Barcelona’s players tore my team apart and complained that only four minutes of added time had been awarded. They wanted to crush us.”

Racing struggled to contain the hosts, who moved to 18 points and the top of La Liga. Racing remained on seven points in 10th place.

“We lacked competitiveness, particularly defensively, and allowed Barcelona to create a great number of chances,” Lopez added. “The three penalties awarded against us confirm that.

“We cannot concede seven goals and give them countless corners.”

Lopez also acknowledged the quality of the team that had overwhelmed his players.

“Barcelona are a confident team which punishes their opponents harshly, and they are extremely difficult to stop,” he said.

The result means Barcelona have scored 27 goals in their opening six league matches. They are the first team to reach that total at this stage of a La Liga season since Sevilla in 1940-41, when they scored 32.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has now won 77% of his matches with the club in all official competitions. His record stands at 95 victories in 124 games, giving him the best win rate of any Barcelona manager in the 21st century.

Flick’s percentage is above that of Luis Enrique, who recorded a 76% win rate during his time in charge of the Catalan club.

Raphinha has also scored 11 goals in all official competitions this season. That makes him the leading scorer among players from clubs in Europe’s five major leagues.
