Pitso Mosimane appoints Morena Ramoreboli as Bafana Bafana assistant

Pitso Mosimane has completed his Bafana Bafana technical team by appointing Morena Ramoreboli as an assistant coach, praising the experienced coach for accepting a role below the head coach position.

Mosimane introduced Ramoreboli at SAFA House on Thursday while announcing his final squad for the AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea. He welcomed the new member of his staff and pointed to Ramoreboli’s previous work within the South African Football Association (SAFA) structure.

“I need to introduce the last member of my technical team. Coach Morena Ramoreboli. Welcome coach to the team. I think you’re all familiar to him. He has been with the U-17 national team, assisting coach Vela Kumalo. I think we all know him and yeah, very experienced,” Mosimane said.

Ramoreboli has worked with the U-17 national team and therefore already understands the procedures and demands involved in the national-team setup. Mosimane said that familiarity was an important factor in deciding who should join his coaching staff.

“So we don’t bring anybody who doesn’t understand the setup of how the national team works,” the Bafana Bafana coach added.

Ramoreboli’s appointment is notable because he previously held a senior international management role. Before joining Bafana Bafana, he was head coach of the Botswana national team, known as the Zebras.

Mosimane praised him for moving from that position to become an assistant with South Africa, describing the decision as a sign of humility while also suggesting it could represent professional progress.

“He’s been the head coach, head coach of the Zebras. And he decided to be assistant coach with us. That’s humble of you, coach. We can say it’s a step down, but probably it’s a step up,” Mosimane said.

The Bafana Bafana manager also publicly thanked Ramoreboli for joining his staff and said he respected the decision, particularly given the coach’s previous status as a senior national-team manager.

“Thanks for joining us and I have respect for you. Especially for somebody who comes as a senior head coach and then comes to be my assistant. I have respect for that. Thank you for joining us,” he said.

Ramoreboli’s arrival completes Mosimane’s technical team apart from a goalkeeper coach. His background includes experience at both youth and senior international level, as Bafana Bafana prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.

South Africa’s schedule includes the AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea, followed by a friendly match against Egypt.
