Barcelona defeat felt like a painful trip to the dentist, says Racing Santander boss

Racing Santander manager Jose Lopez compared his side’s 7-2 defeat by Barcelona to a painful visit to the dentist after the Catalan club extended their perfect start to the Spanish league season.

Barcelona produced another emphatic attacking display in the sixth round of the Spanish league, with Raphinha scoring three times in a result that left Racing Santander in 10th place.

“Losing 7-2 to Barcelona? It was a heavy day for us,” Lopez told reporters.

He added: “It is like going to the dentist. When you go to the dentist, there are four things that hurt you. Facing Barcelona was like the day you go to the dentist and feel severe pain.”

Raphinha’s hat-trick was complemented by two goals from Joao Cancelo, while Gabriel Jesus and Lamine Yamal also scored for Barcelona.

Maget Joy and Yasser Zabiri were on target for Racing Santander.

The victory means Barcelona have won every match they have played this season. Their next fixture is against Sevilla on Saturday.

Barcelona now have 18 points and sit top of the Spanish league, while Racing Santander remain on seven points.

The seven-goal performance also saw Barcelona become the first team to score 27 goals in their opening six matches of a Spanish league season since Sevilla in 1940-1941. Sevilla scored 32 goals in their first six games during that campaign.

The result further strengthened Hansi Flick’s record since taking charge of Barcelona. He has won 77% of his official competitive matches with the club, recording 95 victories in 124 games.

That is the best win percentage achieved by a Barcelona manager in the 21st century, ahead of Luis Enrique, whose winning rate was 76%.

Raphinha’s three goals also took his tally to 11 for the season in all official competitions. He is currently the leading scorer among players from clubs in Europe’s five major leagues.
