Al Ahly will play Kitara of Uganda on 17 and 25 October in the round of 32 of the CAF Confederation Cup, Al Ahly football director Wael Gomaa has confirmed.
Al Ahly entered the competition at the round-of-32 stage, while Kitara secured its place by overcoming Somalia’s Mogadishu City in the preliminary round.
“Al Ahly’s two matches against Kitara of Uganda have been scheduled for 17 and 25 October, in the first and second legs of the round of 32 in the CAF Confederation Cup,” Gomaa told FilGoal.com.
Kitara reached the next stage after beating Mogadishu City 4-1 in the second leg of their preliminary-round tie. The Ugandan side had also won the first leg 2-1, completing a 6-1 aggregate victory.
The club is participating in the CAF Confederation Cup as the winner of the Uganda Cup. Al Ahly qualified for the competition after finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League.
Al Ahly will be joined in the CAF Confederation Cup by fellow Egyptian club ZED. Zamalek and Pyramids, meanwhile, will represent Egypt in the CAF Champions League.
Before beginning their tie against Kitara, Al Ahly are scheduled to face Petrol Asyut in the Egypt Capital Cup after the international break, followed by a league meeting with Zamalek.
The club’s most recent league fixture ended in a 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers in the fifth round of the competition.
Al Ahly will also play El Qanah between the two matches against Kitara, with that fixture coming in the seventh round of the league.
