Pitso Mosimane names South Africa squad for three-match international break

Pitso Mosimane has announced a 28-player South Africa squad for an international break that will include two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and a friendly against Egypt.

South Africa will begin the period with a match against Guinea before facing Eritrea in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations. Their third fixture will be against Egypt on 4 October, in a friendly that will bring their international commitments to a close.

Mosimane’s squad includes players from South Africa’s leading clubs, along with several members of overseas-based teams.

The goalkeepers selected are Ronwen Williams, Sibho Chaine and Richard Gouws, who play for Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

The defenders are organised as follows:

– Kamogelo Sebelebele (Orlando Pirates) – Thapelo Morena (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Thabang Matuludi (Polokwane City) – Imke Okon (Hannover 96) – Lebone Seema (Orlando Pirates) – Nkosinathi Sibisi (Orlando Pirates) – Olwethu Makhanya (Rangers) – Khulomani Ndimani (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Fawaz Basadien (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Aubrey Modiba (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Samukelo Kabini (Molde)

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena is included alongside Kaizer Chiefs’ Lebohang Maboe, while the rest of the midfield group consists of Sifiso Sithole of Tondela, Bathusi Aubaas of Mamelodi Sundowns and Brooklyn Poggenpoel of Durban City.

The forwards named by Mosimane are:

The squad contains a strong Mamelodi Sundowns presence, with the club also providing goalkeeper Williams and several players in defence, midfield and attack.

Mosimane is taking charge of South Africa after succeeding Belgian coach Hugo Broos, who led the side at the World Cup. His first task will be to guide the team through the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Guinea and Eritrea before the meeting with Egypt on 4 October.
