CAF boss Motsepe confident joint visa arrangement will be in place for AFCON 2027

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe says he is confident that a joint visa arrangement will be introduced for supporters travelling between Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three East African countries will jointly host the tournament, with the competition expected to attract thousands of supporters from across Africa and beyond.

Motsepe revealed that discussions over a coordinated visa system are already underway, with the aim of making travel between the three host nations easier during the tournament.

“I am confident that there will be a joint visa arrangement,” Motsepe said.

He added that talks involving the relevant authorities are ongoing as the three countries prepare to host the continent’s biggest football tournament.

A coordinated visa system would be particularly significant for AFCON 2027 because supporters, teams, officials and other visitors may need to travel between multiple host cities during the competition.

The arrangement could allow eligible visitors to enter the three participating countries under a common or mutually recognised visa framework, reducing the administrative requirements associated with travelling across borders.

Motsepe has repeatedly stressed the importance of close cooperation between Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda as preparations for the tournament continue.

The CAF president has also called on the three governments, football associations and local organising structures to work together to ensure the tournament is delivered successfully.

The 2027 AFCON will be the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by the three East African nations.

With infrastructure, transport, accommodation, training facilities and other logistical issues being developed ahead of the tournament, the proposed visa arrangement is expected to form part of wider efforts to make movement across the host countries more convenient.

Motsepe’s comments come as CAF continues to engage with the three host nations over preparations for the tournament, with officials assessing the readiness of facilities and other key areas.

The joint hosting of AFCON 2027 is seen as a major opportunity for East Africa to showcase its footballing infrastructure and strengthen regional cooperation through sport.
