Pitso Mosimane names 30-man Bafana Bafana squad for Afcon qualifiers

Pitso Mosimane has selected a 30-man Bafana Bafana squad for the opening 2027 Caf Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Yanela Mbuthuma and Cassius Mailula among the players included.

Mosimane is beginning his second spell as coach of the South African senior national side, having previously led Bafana Bafana between 2010 and 2012. He returns to the role with significant continental experience, having won the Caf Champions League once with Mamelodi Sundowns and twice with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Fawaaz Basadien, Lebone Seema, Brooklyn Poggenpoel, Puso Dithejane, Tashreeq Matthews, Luther Singh and Shandre Campbell are also part of the squad named by Mosimane.

Bafana Bafana will play their first match under the coach on Saturday September 26, when they face Guinea in an Afcon 2027 qualifier at Orlando Amstel Arena.

Their second qualifier will take place four days later against Eritrea in Egypt. South Africa will then complete the international week with a friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on October 4.

The 2027 Caf Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
