Kompany backs Luis Diaz to end Bayern Munich scoring drought

Vincent Kompany is confident Luis Diaz will soon rediscover his goalscoring form after the Bayern Munich winger scored only once in the club’s opening six matches of the season.

The Colombia international enjoyed a highly productive first campaign with Bayern, scoring 26 goals and providing 23 assists in 51 appearances during the 2025-2026 season. However, he has found the net just once so far this term.

Kompany said Diaz’s work in training suggested a return to form was close.

“Diaz has scored a huge number of goals in training. It has been a good week for him,” the Bayern Munich manager told reporters.

“If he can translate that into matches, then everything will return to normal for him.”

Diaz has previously addressed his current form and his spell without a goal since making such an impressive impact in his first season with the Bavarian club.

“I have always said that I will never lack desire,” Diaz told Sky Sport Germany. “The ambition to achieve more is what my mindset will always be.”

“I always want to achieve more. Whatever happens, there can be periods when I do not perform well or cannot find the net.”

“But I will always do my very best and give everything for the team. I will give 101% on the pitch. Everything else will come with time, step by step.”

Diaz added that he believed his best form was close and that his next goal could arrive soon.

“I am looking for the best version of myself, and I will reach it soon. I believe the goal will come in the next match,” he said.

Bayern Munich will face Union Berlin on Friday in the fourth round of the Bundesliga.

Diaz said maintaining a calm mindset would be important as he looks to end his drought.

“You also have to remain mentally calm so that it does not put pressure on you. The important thing is to keep working and improving,” he said.

“I know it is only about taking the chances. The only thing I am missing is the final touch, and after that everything will be fine.”
