Liverpool will host Chelsea in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, while Premier League champions Arsenal have been handed an away tie against Fleetwood Town.
The draw, held in the early hours of Thursday morning, set up a meeting between two of English football’s biggest clubs at Anfield. Arsenal, meanwhile, were paired with the lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition.
Xabi Alonso will return to Anfield for the first time as Chelsea manager after his side beat Leeds 6-3 last week. Liverpool reached the fourth round with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham.
Alonso enjoyed an outstanding spell as a Liverpool player and won the Champions League with the club. He had been regarded as a potential successor to Arne Slot, but instead moved to Stamford Bridge.
Fleetwood Town, who play in the second division, will welcome Arsenal. Brighton, who eliminated Manchester United, will face the winners of Thursday’s match between Manchester City and Norwich City.
According to Sky Sports, the complete fourth-round draw is:
– Fleetwood Town v Arsenal – Manchester City or Norwich City v Brighton – Everton v Newcastle – Sunderland v Brentford – Liverpool v Chelsea – Bradford v Peterborough – Fulham v Crystal Palace – Bournemouth v Aston Villa
