Genk’s Rafiu Durosinmi draws Victor Osimhen comparison after flying start in Belgium

Rafiu Durosinmi’s explosive start to life at Genk has earned the Nigerian striker a comparison with compatriot Victor Osimhen, with his agent Tosin Dosunmu highlighting his aerial prowess as a standout quality.

The 23-year-old forward arrived at the Belgian Pro League club from Italian side Pisa in July and has quickly established himself as one of Genk’s key attacking players.

Durosinmi has scored five goals in six league appearances, making an immediate impact despite having had limited time to settle into his new surroundings.

His form has now prompted Dosunmu, a former Nigeria international, to draw parallels between the young striker and Galatasaray forward Osimhen, who is widely recognised for his pace, movement and threat in front of goal.

‘He sometimes reminds me of Osimhen’

Dosunmu believes Durosinmi’s qualities bear similarities to those of Osimhen but insists his client possesses a particularly strong aerial game.

“Rafiu sometimes reminds me a bit of Victor Osimhen, with the difference that he is really very strong in the air,” Dosunmu told Het Nieuwsblad.

The comparison comes after Durosinmi made an immediate impression on Genk, despite joining the club only recently.

Dosunmu revealed that the striker’s performance on the opening matchday exceeded his expectations, considering he had spent only a short period training with his new teammates.

“On matchday one, he already surprised me with what he showed after barely ten days of training,” he said.

Durosinmi’s early return has made him a significant attacking outlet for Genk, with his five goals providing evidence of his ability to adapt quickly to Belgian football.

Dosunmu identifies areas for improvement

While praising the striker’s impact, Dosunmu believes Durosinmi still has room to develop physically and improve his understanding with his teammates.

“Condition-wise, he is not yet top-notch, and the understanding with his teammates still needs to develop a bit,” he added.

Those areas could improve as Durosinmi spends more time within Genk’s system and builds a stronger connection with the players around him.

For now, however, his goalscoring record has given Genk an early return on their decision to bring him in from Pisa.

With five goals already in six league games, Durosinmi has made a statement at the start of his Belgian adventure and is attracting attention through performances that have prompted comparisons with one of Nigeria’s most prominent forwards.
