Seko Fofana leaves Ivory Coast on a high, says Ahmed Ouattara

Seko Fofana has ended his international career with Ivory Coast at the age of 31, bringing to a close a significant chapter in the recent history of the Elephants.

The midfielder played a key role in Ivory Coast’s success at CAN 2023, while also establishing himself as an influential figure through his character, energy and authority in midfield.

Former Ivory Coast international Ahmed Ouattara believes Fofana’s decision should be respected and says the player departs having made a lasting contribution to the national team.

Ouattara’s comments, collected by 225foota, focused on Fofana’s impact with the Elephants and the manner of his departure. He described the midfielder as an exemplary player and said he was leaving the national side “through the big door”.

Fofana’s timing, according to Ouattara, also reflects a degree of maturity. Having reached the high point of his international career with Ivory Coast, the midfielder has chosen to make way for the next generation.

His decision marks the beginning of a new period for the Elephants. Fofana’s experience, temperament and influence in the middle of the pitch will no longer be available to the national team, while younger Ivorian midfielders will have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility in the national shirt.
