Saudi Arabia name 26-man Gulf Cup squad as injured Saud Abdulhamid misses out

Saudi Arabia have announced a 26-player squad for the Gulf Cup, with Lens defender Saud Abdulhamid omitted because he has not recovered from injury.

Captain Salem Al-Dawsari is also absent from the squad after suffering an injury.

Saudi Arabia head coach Georgios Donis, the Greek manager, confirmed the selection on Wednesday ahead of the tournament, which will be held in Jeddah from 23 September to 6 October.

The Green Falcons are in Group A alongside Iraq, Kuwait and Oman.

The squad includes goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais, Hamed Youssef and Nawaf Al-Aqidi.

In defence, Donis has selected Abdulilah Al-Amri, Hassan Kadesh, Rayan Hamed, Jihad Zakri, Moteb Al-Harbi, Hassan Tambakti, Mohammed Mahzari, Nawaf Boushal and Zakaria Hawsawi.

The midfield options are Ziyad Al-Jehani, Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Musab Al-Juwayr, Mohammed Kanno, Alaa Haji, Nasser Al-Dawsari and Abdullah Al-Khaibari.

Saudi Arabia’s forwards are Saleh Abu Al-Shamat, Homam Al-Hamami, Abdullah Al-Salem, Firas Al-Buraikan, Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat, Sultan Mandash and Abdullah Al-Hamdan.
