Barcelona v Racing Santander under threat from severe weather warning

Barcelona’s match against Racing Santander at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday evening could be affected by severe weather, with heavy rain and storms forecast across Catalonia.

The fixture is scheduled to kick off at 21:30, but the Catalan Meteorological Service, Meteocat, has issued a yellow warning in several parts of the region. The alert covers the possibility of torrential rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, a new storm front is expected to move into the area, bringing heavy rainfall and falling temperatures. Rainfall could reach particularly high levels in some locations, while the weather is expected to remain unsettled until the early hours of Thursday.

The match is due to take place during the period identified by Meteocat as carrying the greatest risk. Forecasts indicate that the sensitive period will run from 14:00 on Wednesday until 08:00 on Thursday.

Conditions could become more severe during the night along the coast and pre-coastal areas of central Catalonia. Barcelona and nearby districts are among the areas where the weather could be most intense, raising uncertainty over whether the game will go ahead at its scheduled time.

Barcelona have already played in difficult rainfall during one of their recent fixtures. Their Champions League meeting with Feyenoord was affected by heavy rain during the opening 30 minutes, although the rainfall later stopped and the match continued normally.

The current warning does not confirm that the game will be postponed, but the forecast places the Barcelona-Racing Santander fixture within the period covered by the official weather alert.
