Alphonso Davies to miss Canada’s international window for wedding

Alphonso Davies will miss Canada’s forthcoming international window after being omitted from the national team’s 26-man squad for matches against Chile, Peru and the United States.

The Bayern Munich left-back is unavailable because of his wedding and subsequent honeymoon.

Canada confirmed that its captain will not travel for the three fixtures, meaning Davies will avoid the additional demands of international matches and long-distance travel between late September and early October. Canada host Chile in Toronto on September 26, welcome Peru to Montreal on October 3, and then travel to Minnesota to face the United States on October 6.

The break could be useful for Bayern. Davies has recently returned from a thigh muscle tear and has shown increasingly encouraging form since rejoining the team. Missing the international fixtures gives him more time in Munich to manage his workload and consolidate his physical recovery.

The 25-year-old will therefore have an extended period away from competitive football after Bayern’s club commitments before the international interval. It also removes the immediate risk of another setback while representing Canada.

Bayern will hope the additional rest helps Davies return fully refreshed and ready for the demanding run of domestic and European fixtures that follows.
