Europa League: Rennes face Sturm Graz test in Austria

Stade Rennais return to European competition on Wednesday when they visit Sturm Graz in the Europa League at 19:00 BST at the Merkur Arena.

Sturm Graz were moved into the Europa League after losing to Fenerbahce in the Champions League qualifying rounds. The Austrian side will look to make home advantage count as they begin their continental campaign in front of their supporters.

Rennes arrive in strong form under Franck Haise. They remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 after three victories and a draw against Paris Saint-Germain, while their impressive tactical organisation has helped establish a positive start to the season.

Franck Haise has a full squad available for the trip to Austria, giving Rennes the option to impose their style and tempo from the outset.

They will, however, need to be efficient in front of goal against a Sturm Graz side known for its committed approach. The Austrian team can also be vulnerable defensively when playing away from home, although Rennes will be wary of allowing the occasion to become a significant test.

The match is the first official meeting between the two clubs and represents an important opportunity for both sides to begin the opening round of the Europa League with a positive result.
