Morocco forward Soufiane Rahimi breaks Al Ain scoring record to overtake Asamoah Gyan

Morocco forward Soufiane Rahimi has become Al Ain’s all-time leading scorer in Asian club competitions after helping the UAE side beat Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr 4-0.

Rahimi scored one of Al Ain’s four goals in Wednesday’s AFC Champions League Elite victory at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.

The goal took his tally for the club in Asian competitions to 19, moving him clear of former Al Ain captain Omar Abdulrahman and Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan, who both scored 18.

Rahimi had gone into the match level with Abdulrahman and Gyan at the top of the club’s continental scoring chart.

The 30-year-old’s latest goal means he now holds the record outright and has an opportunity to extend his lead during the rest of the competition.

Gyan, who played for Al Ain between 2011 and 2012, scored 18 goals in Asian competitions during his time at the club and remains one of its most prolific continental scorers.

Rahimi has established himself as one of Al Ain’s key attacking players since joining the club and was instrumental in their run to the AFC Champions League final in 2024.

His record-breaking goal came as Al Ain produced an emphatic start to their league-stage campaign, with the four-goal victory over Al-Nassr giving them an early statement in the competition.
