Al Nassr punished by another defensive error in Al Ain match

Al Nassr’s defensive problems continued against Al Ain as a misplaced pass and a goalkeeping mistake combined to give the UAE side an early lead.

Al Ain took advantage after 25 minutes when Al Nassr left-back Saad Al-Nasser played the ball straight to Hussein Rahimi. The Al Ain player was presented with a clear opportunity in front of goal and made no mistake.

Rahimi sent his shot through the legs of Al Nassr goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi and into the net, leaving Al Nassr 1-0 down at an early stage of the match.

Saad Al-Nasser had not been under significant pressure when he made the error. He appeared to have enough time and space to play the ball safely and move his side out of danger, but his misplaced pass instead put Al Nassr in serious trouble.

The mistake was compounded by Al-Aqidi’s attempt to deal with the shot. The ball went between the goalkeeper’s legs, completing a sequence of errors that turned one misplaced pass into a goal for Al Ain.

The incident prompted visible disbelief among the Al Nassr players and once again highlighted the individual mistakes that have continued to affect the team’s defensive performances. On this occasion, the error involved both a defender and the goalkeeper.

Al Nassr have attacking players capable of changing matches, but repeated lapses at the back continue to leave the team vulnerable against their opponents. The goal against Al Ain provided another example of how quickly a single mistake can put them in difficulty.
