Senny Mayulu faces reduced role at PSG despite new contract

Senny Mayulu is facing a difficult period at Paris Saint-Germain despite signing a contract extension that keeps him at the club until 2031.

The 20-year-old midfielder has struggled to secure regular playing time during the opening weeks of the season and was recently left out of the squad for the trip to Brest.

Mayulu has featured for only 67 minutes, making one Ligue 1 appearance and coming off the bench four times. He also missed PSG’s opening-day match against Rennes, underlining how challenging the competition for places has become.

Luis Enrique previously expressed his confidence in the academy graduate, saying: “He is an important player for me, he is a Titi, it is essential to see what he can offer the team.” However, the coach acknowledged that PSG’s expanded squad has affected playing opportunities. “This year is a little special in terms of playing time, because we have more players,” Enrique explained.

Mayulu’s representatives insist there is no conflict with the manager. “He is a competitor, he wants to play, he trusts the coach’s decisions. In the meantime, he stays ready and does the job,” they said.

The midfielder captained PSG in pre-season victories over Mallorca and Manchester United, but increased midfield competition has pushed him down the pecking order.
