Liverpool consider January move for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara

Lamine Camara could be offered a route to the Premier League in January, with Liverpool reportedly showing serious interest in the AS Monaco midfielder after his proposed summer transfer to Chelsea collapsed.

According to journalist David Lynch, the Senegal international is being closely monitored by Liverpool and the club could make an approach during the next transfer window. Lynch, who regularly covers the Reds, discussed the possibility of a January move in an interview with Anfield Index.

Camara appeared set to join Chelsea during the final stages of the summer window. The midfielder had held several discussions with the London club’s officials about his proposed role and is understood to have agreed to their project.

However, Monaco reversed its decision in the closing hours of the market and chose to keep the player. The timing left Chelsea with little opportunity to identify and sign a replacement.

The change of position reportedly angered Chelsea’s hierarchy, who were particularly frustrated by the way the negotiations concluded. With the decision coming so late, the Blues had almost no time to respond before the transfer deadline.

Liverpool’s interest has since added a new dimension to Camara’s situation. Monaco’s decision to retain him has been linked to the possibility of a late approach from Liverpool, as well as the English club’s potential ability to submit a larger offer in January.

Lynch’s assessment suggests that Liverpool’s interest is not merely speculative. The Merseyside club could now attempt to use the failed Chelsea move to persuade Monaco to sanction the midfielder’s departure.

Chelsea had reportedly been prepared to pay about 55 million euros for Camara. Monaco could now demand close to 70 million euros before considering a sale, meaning Liverpool may have to increase that figure to secure his signature.

That valuation may not deter Liverpool if the club’s staff regard Camara as a priority target. The 20-year-old could therefore become the focus of another transfer saga when the January window opens, with Liverpool potentially leading the chase.

A move would give Camara a second opportunity to join a Premier League club after his proposed switch to Chelsea fell through. This time, however, the price could be significantly higher.

Camara is valued at 40 million euros by Transfermarkt and earns an annual salary of 1,380,000 euros, equivalent to 897,000,000 FCFA.
