Nouran Gohar withdraws from Qatar Classic quarter-final through injury

Nouran Gohar has withdrawn from her Qatar Classic quarter-final against Hania El Hammamy because of injury, the Professional Squash Association has announced.

Gohar had been due to face fellow Egyptian El Hammamy in the last eight of the tournament, which is being held in Doha until next Sunday.

The withdrawal comes after Gohar returned to competitive action following a year away from the sport because of pregnancy-related circumstances.

She had won both of her matches at the event. Gohar began with a 3-0 victory over Kenzy Ayman before beating Malak Khafagy 3-2 in the last 16.

Her absence means El Hammamy advances directly to the semi-finals, where she will face Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam.

Sivasangari also progressed without completing her last-16 match after Belgium’s Tinne Gilis withdrew through injury.

In the other side of the women’s draw, Egypt is guaranteed a semi-final place from Wednesday’s quarter-final between Amina Orfi and Fayrouz Aboelkheir.

Men’s quarter-finals

In the men’s competition, Mostafa Asal is scheduled to play Aly Abou Eleinen in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Karim Abdel Gawad will meet fellow Egyptian Youssef Soliman in another last-eight match on Wednesday.
