Egypt’s Women’s Under-23 3×3 basketball team began their World Cup campaign with a 17-14 victory over Italy in China.
They were beaten 21-20 by the host nation in their second match later the same day, leaving Egypt with one win and one defeat from their opening fixtures.
Egypt will face the Philippines and France on Thursday in their remaining Group A matches.
The Egyptian team are in Group A alongside France, Italy, the Philippines and China, who are hosting the tournament.
The World Cup is being played in a group-stage format. The teams finishing first and second in each group will qualify directly for the quarter-finals, with the knockout rounds continuing through to the final stages of the competition.
Hany Hassan is in charge of Egypt, whose squad for the tournament consists of Jana Wael, Farida Massad, Radwa Alaa and Tamara Nader.
The tournament concludes on 19 September.
