AE Kifisia forward Jordi Mboula chooses Congo over Spain at international level

AE Kifisia forward Jordi Mboula has made a definitive decision on his international future after committing to represent the Republic of the Congo ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 27-year-old striker, who was born in Spain, has been included in Claude Le Roy’s 27-man squad for Congo’s opening two qualifying fixtures against Namibia and Cameroon.

Mboula, who has made 26 appearances for Spain’s youth teams, has now opted to represent his father’s country of origin at senior international level.

The forward currently plays for Greek Super League side AE Kifisia and is expected to make his debut for the Red Devils during the upcoming international break.

His decision provides Congo with an additional attacking option as they begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mboula came through the Spanish youth system and represented the country at various age levels before deciding to switch his international allegiance to Congo.

Claude Le Roy will hope the striker can make an immediate impact as the Red Devils seek a positive start to their qualifying campaign.

Congo will begin their campaign away from home when they travel to face Namibia on September 24. The match will be played at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, due to the lack of an approved stadium in Namibia.

Five days later, Congo will return home to host Cameroon on September 29 at the Alphonse-Massamba-Débat Stadium in Brazzaville.

Mboula’s arrival could therefore prove timely for Le Roy as Congo prepare for two challenging fixtures in their bid to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
