Werder Bremen boss Daniel Thioune urges patience for Salim Musah

Salim Musah faces a difficult spell at Werder Bremen, with the young forward currently limited to a supporting role despite an encouraging pre-season.

Since Niclas Fullkrug returned to the side, the 20-year-old’s opportunities have reduced sharply, and he remained an unused substitute in Bremen’s recent 1-1 draw with FC Koln.

Head coach Daniel Thioune understands Musah’s frustration but has urged him to remain patient. “It is clear that he is not happy to sit on the bench for 90 minutes,” Thioune said. Fullkrug’s three goals since returning and competition from Cedric Itten have made the attacking positions increasingly difficult to secure.

Thioune nevertheless praised Musah’s work during the summer. “Salim had a decent pre-season,” the coach explained, noting that the youngster received significant minutes and “made people take notice.”

The Bremen manager believes Musah must continue developing and make every opportunity count. “Patience is required from him and he must use the time he gets for himself and his development. He is still very young,” Thioune added. “We have to win football matches and that comes before everything else.”

Werder reportedly rejected loan interest from several second-division clubs in the summer, underlining their long-term faith in Musah. Thioune expects him to receive further opportunities, although the timing remains uncertain.
