Trent Kone-Doherty scores first Molde hat-trick as Ivorian winger continues rapid rise

Trent Kone-Doherty is quickly becoming one of the names to watch in Norway after the 20-year-old Ivorian winger scored three times in Molde FK’s 5-1 victory over HamKam on Sunday.

The forward struck in the 56th, 58th and 84th minutes during the 21st round of the Norwegian championship, recording his first hat-trick for the club. The performance underlined the progress he has made during his first professional season.

A first hat-trick for Molde

Kone-Doherty’s three goals made him one of the decisive figures in Molde’s emphatic win. His latest contribution takes his league record after 21 matches to six goals and one assist.

Across all competitions, he has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 19 appearances. Those figures reflect an increasing influence in the final third as the winger continues to establish himself at senior level.

His display against HamKam also highlighted a growing efficiency in front of goal, an important development during his first campaign as a professional footballer.

From Liverpool academy to regular football in Norway

Before making his mark in Norway, Kone-Doherty spent time in Liverpool’s academy. He joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 and regularly featured for the club’s Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 teams.

His time at Liverpool also brought two opportunities with the first team. He made his senior debut as a substitute against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup in February 2025.

The Ivorian then made another appearance against Crystal Palace in October of the same year. In February 2026, he left Liverpool permanently to join Molde, a move that has given him regular playing time and the chance to take another step in his development.

Long-term deal shows Molde’s faith

Molde have secured Kone-Doherty’s services until 31 December 2029. The length of the contract reflects the confidence the Norwegian club has placed in the 20-year-old winger.

His current market value is estimated at 800,000 euros, although that figure could change quickly if he maintains his current form.

Kone-Doherty’s pace, attacking work and improved finishing have provided him with a strong platform for continued progress. His hat-trick against HamKam represents another significant moment in the emergence of an Ivorian player whose profile is growing in Norway.

Molde’s next match in the Norwegian championship will be against Aalesund FK in the 22nd round. The listed 1xbet odds for the fixture are 1.28 for a Molde win, 5.10 for a draw and 5.80 for an Aalesund FK victory.
