Al Ahly provide Egypt with update on Yasser Ibrahim injury

Al Ahly have informed the Egypt national team about Yasser Ibrahim’s condition after the defender suffered an ankle injury during the club’s Egyptian Premier League match against Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

Ibrahim was injured in the fourth round of the league and has undergone further scans to assess the problem.

The centre-back is continuing with a programme of physiotherapy and rehabilitation after suffering a sprain to the medial ligament and a tear to the lateral ligament in his ankle.

Al Ahly head of medical affairs Ahmed Gaballah said he had contacted Egypt’s medical staff to share the latest information.

“I contacted Mohamed Abou El-Ela, head of the national team’s medical staff, and informed him about the player’s condition and the tests he underwent in recent hours, as part of the ongoing co-ordination between the two sides,” Gaballah said.

Ibrahim is still experiencing pain from the injury and has swelling in his foot. He is also using a medical brace to stabilise the ankle while moving.

The defender could join up with Egypt and potentially feature in the team’s final match if he responds quickly to treatment.

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan is expected to announce his squad for the international breaks in September and October.

Egypt will face South Sudan and Angola in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before playing a friendly against South Africa on 4 October.

Al Ahly are due to play Abu Qir Fertilizers on Tuesday in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

They are third in the league table with 10 points.
