Paris Saint-Germain provide injury update on Achraf Hakimi ahead of Marseille clash

Paris Saint-Germain have provided an injury update on Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi ahead of their clash with Marseille.

The enterprising full-back suffered an injury setback in the sides 1-0 win over Brest at the weekend. Hakimi is suffering from a minor injury to his right thigh, with the full-back now set to undergo treatment as the club monitors his recovery.

According to PSG, the Moroccan defender will receive treatment over the next two days before undergoing another medical assessment. The results of that examination will help determine the severity of the injury and when Hakimi can return to training and competitive action.

The update has raised doubts over Hakimi’s availability for PSG’s highly anticipated clash against Marseille next Sunday.

The club has not provided a specific timeframe for his return, meaning his participation in the fixture will depend largely on how he responds to treatment and the findings of the upcoming medical assessment.

Hakimi’s situation will also be closely monitored by Morocco, with the defender an important figure for the Atlas Lions.

The right-back’s fitness comes at a crucial time for the national team, who are preparing for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Gabon and Lesotho.

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi is expected to announce his squad for the two matches during a press conference next Thursday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 11:00am, with Ouahbi expected to provide details of his plans for the upcoming qualifiers and the players selected for the squad.

Morocco will host Gabon on Friday, September 25, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat before travelling for their second qualifying fixture against Lesotho.

Hakimi’s availability will therefore be a major consideration for Ouahbi as he finalises his squad. The 27-year-old has established himself as one of Morocco’s key players and his presence would be a major boost for the Atlas Lions.

For now, however, the immediate priority is Hakimi’s recovery. PSG will assess his condition again after the two-day treatment period before making a clearer decision on his return to training and matches.

The upcoming medical assessment should provide a better indication of whether Hakimi can recover in time for the Marseille clash and, more importantly for Morocco, whether he will be fit to join the national team for the September international window.
