Olivier Verdon joins Maccabi Netanya after Servette move falls through

Olivier Verdon has joined Maccabi Netanya FC, ending speculation that the Benin international would move to Switzerland with Servette FC.

The 30-year-old defender has signed a two-season contract with the Israeli club, with the option of extending the agreement by a further year.

The move follows the end of Verdon’s spell with PFK Ludogorets, where he recently departed by mutual consent after a successful period with the Bulgarian giants.

Verdon leaves PFK Ludogorets with an impressive 13 trophies to his name, having established himself as a key figure during his time in Bulgaria.

His switch to the Israeli top flight presents a new challenge for the experienced centre-back, who will now bring his physical presence and tactical experience to Maccabi Netanya FC’s defence.

The transfer also marks a change in direction for Verdon, whose proposed move to Servette FC had appeared to be the leading option before he ultimately chose Israel.
