Franco Mastantuono scored his first goal for Fiorentina as they beat Venezia 2-1 in Friday’s Serie A meeting, giving the club an important lead in the fourth round of the Italian league.

The Argentina forward, on loan from Real Madrid, made his mark with a fine finish from outside the penalty area. He received two successive passes on the right in the 29th and 30th minutes before striking with his left foot and finding a way past the Venezia goalkeeper.

Mastantuono had already been one of Fiorentina’s most influential players before finally opening his account for the club. The goal came during his fourth Serie A appearance since joining the team.

His breakthrough also coincided with Paolo Vanoli’s first match in charge. Vanoli replaced Grosso as Fiorentina manager following the club’s difficult start to the campaign.

Fiorentina had taken no points from their opening three league matches before Friday’s game.
