Foden mocks Manchester United fans after red card in derby win

Phil Foden appeared to taunt Manchester United supporters as he left Old Trafford after Manchester City’s 1-0 derby victory on Sunday.

The Manchester City forward was shown a straight red card in the 23rd minute for kicking United captain Bruno Fernandes, leaving Enzo Maresca’s side facing a difficult task if they were to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.

Despite playing with 10 men, City secured the points through Erling Haaland, whose winning goal was described as controversial. The result means Manchester City have taken 12 points from their opening four matches and remain level with Arsenal at the top of the table.

Manchester United, meanwhile, remain 13th with only four points.

Foden appeared to show little sympathy for the home supporters as he made his way away from the ground. A video shared after the match showed him smiling and holding up his fingers to indicate the 1-0 scoreline in front of Manchester United fans outside the stadium.

He ignored loud chants of booing directed towards him.

Foden later posted on X after the derby: “An incredible performance from the players. I’m hugely disappointed that I couldn’t play my part properly. Proud to be blue.”
