Klopp handed injury concern as Germany squad announcement approaches

Jurgen Klopp has been handed an early setback before naming his first Germany squad for Nations League matches against the Netherlands, Greece and Serbia.

According to Foot Mercato, RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouedraogo could miss Klopp’s first matches in charge of the national team after suffering a fresh shoulder injury.

The 20-year-old was forced off in the 35th minute of RB Leipzig’s 5-0 victory over Hamburg on Sunday. Ouedraogo had started the match but left the field after a challenge involving Albert Grønbæk.

The injury comes as Klopp prepares to announce his first Germany squad on Thursday, and has raised concerns at RB Leipzig that Ouedraogo may be facing another extended spell on the sidelines.

The club are particularly worried because the problem could be related to the same shoulder injury that kept the midfielder out for the whole of August.

“I think it is the same injury,” RB Leipzig manager Martin Demichelis said. “It does not look promising. We need him. He is an incredible talent, both for Germany and for our club.”

Ouedraogo has experienced repeated injury problems since joining RB Leipzig in 2024. He has already missed more than 380 days of football and could now be sidelined for several weeks once again.
