Mourinho says Yan Diomande has what it takes to become a Real Madrid regular

Jose Mourinho says Yan Diomande lacks nothing to establish himself as a regular starter for Real Madrid, despite fierce competition for places in attack.

Mourinho was asked about the Ivorian forward before Real Madrid’s La Liga fixture against Elche, after Diomande made his first start for the club in the match against Rayo Vallecano, according to Tribuna.

The Portuguese manager gave a direct response when asked what Diomande needed to do to secure a regular place in the starting XI.

“Nothing is missing,” said Mourinho.

He added that Diomande would have no difficulty playing regularly if he were at another club.

“If he were at any other team in the world, he would play 90 minutes in every match,” Mourinho said.

The Real Madrid manager explained that Diomande’s situation was primarily the result of the number of attacking options available to him, rather than any weakness in the player’s performances.

“We have many options: Diomande, Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler, Brahim Diaz and then Rodrygo Goes will be back soon. So when we talk about an indispensable starter, it becomes difficult,” he added.

Real Madrid are second in La Liga with 12 points after five matches. They are three points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona.
