Former Real Madrid player and manager Zinedine Zidane has praised the work being done by Jose Mourinho, saying the club has made a positive start under their new manager.
Zidane was speaking while attending the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1 in Madrid. According to Spanish website Defensa Central, the Frenchman offered only brief comments on Real Madrid’s current situation, but gave Mourinho a clear vote of confidence after the team’s encouraging opening to the season.
“Real Madrid are doing very well, as always. Mourinho has managed to get the team in excellent condition,” Zidane said.
His comments came after Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano, a result which continued their strong record in front of goal. The team did, however, experience periods in which they lost control of the match and their performance dipped – areas Mourinho is still working to improve.
Zidane’s praise carries particular weight because of his close understanding of the demands placed on those working at Real Madrid. He represented the club as a player before managing them, and during his coaching spell was responsible for a squad containing a number of high-profile players.
