Durban City set up Port Louis tie in CAF Confederation Cup

Durban City secured a place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 3-1 aggregate win over Burundi’s Rukinzo.

The South African side took a 1-0 lead into the second leg in Bujumbura after Gaston Sirino scored in the opening match at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

They doubled their advantage almost immediately in the return fixture when Kyle Jurgens headed in from a cross in the opening minute.

Samkelo Maseko then struck in the 37th minute after combining effectively with Jurgens and Sirino, leaving Khalil Ben Youssef’s team firmly in control of the tie.

Rukinzo managed to score after the break and reduce the deficit, but Durban City held on to complete the victory and progress to the next round.

Their opponents will be Mauritius-based Port Louis, who reached the second preliminary round by beating Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy 2-1 on aggregate.

Durban City will next turn their attention to the Betway Premiership, with a fixture against Orlando Pirates scheduled for Thursday, 17 September at Orlando Amstel Arena.
