Sassuolo stun Juventus with three goals in five-minute Serie A finale

Juventus suffered their first defeat of the season after Sassuolo scored three times in the final five minutes to win a dramatic Serie A encounter in the fourth round of the campaign.

The match appeared to be heading for a 1-1 draw before the closing stages produced a remarkable turnaround. Kieron Bowie restored Sassuolo’s lead in the 89th minute, only for Edon Zhegrova to equalise for Juventus in the first minute of stoppage time.

Sassuolo substitute Vasilije Adzic then delivered the decisive blow in the fourth minute of added time, scoring against the club he left for Sassuolo on loan last summer.

The result also meant Sassuolo were helped by one of their players in a victory that affected a member of his own family at Inter. Sebastiano Esposito opened the scoring for Sassuolo and, by contributing to Juventus’ defeat, helped his brother Francesco Pio Esposito’s club in their efforts to halt the Turin side.

Sassuolo took the lead in the 65th minute when Esposito was played through by an excellent pass from Nemanja Matic. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Esposito finished the chance to make it 1-0.

Juventus responded in the 82nd minute. Zhegrova collected the ball inside the penalty area and struck a low shot beyond the goalkeeper to bring the visitors level.

Sassuolo moved back in front seven minutes later. Daryl Bakola supplied the pass for Bowie, who took the shot first time in the 89th minute and made the score 2-1.

Juventus again found a way back into the game when Zhegrova scored his second goal in the first minute of stoppage time. His powerful effort along the ground restored parity at 2-2.

But the comeback was short-lived. Adzic completed the scoring in the 94th minute with a finish from inside the penalty area, securing Sassuolo a 3-2 victory.

The defeat ended Juventus’ unbeaten start to the current season. Sassuolo’s win moved them to seven points and ninth place in the table, level on points with Juventus, who are eighth.
