Ferran Torres fires Paris Saint-Germain to first Ligue 1 victory of the season

Paris Saint-Germain secured their first Ligue 1 win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Stade Brestois, as Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match in the fourth round.

The Spain international struck in the fifth minute after receiving the ball from Ousmane Dembele. Torres finished the move by sending his shot into the Brest net to give Paris Saint-Germain an early lead.

That goal proved enough to settle the contest and allowed the Parisian side to claim three points after beginning the campaign with one defeat and two draws.

Paris Saint-Germain now have five points and sit seventh in the Ligue 1 table. Brest remain on five points, level with their opponents after four rounds.

For Torres, the goal continued an impressive start to his Paris Saint-Germain career. He has now scored six times in his first five appearances for the club in all competitions.

That is the best scoring start by a newly arrived player at the French club, matching the six-goal opening recorded by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Neymar is next on the list, having scored five times during his first five matches.

Torres has scored three goals in four Ligue 1 appearances this season. He has also scored three times in one Champions League match.

His decisive finish against Brest gave Paris Saint-Germain their first league success of the current campaign, while also extending Torres’ early contribution since joining the club.

Paris Saint-Germain will now turn their attention to a meeting with Marseille next Sunday in the fifth round of Ligue 1.

Brest will also play on Sunday, when they face Auxerre in the same round.
