Morocco monitor Achraf Hakimi after defender suffers injury in PSG clash

Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi was forced off with an injury during Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 meeting with Brest on Saturday night.

The PSG right-back was unable to continue after a collision with a Brest player in the 39th minute, with Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz coming on as his replacement.

The injury comes at a time when Hakimi remains a key player for both the French champions and the Moroccan national team.

Hakimi forced off before half-time

PSG had taken an early lead through Spanish forward Ferran Torres before Hakimi’s injury interrupted the visitors’ progress.

The Moroccan international received treatment following the collision but was eventually withdrawn, with Ruiz taking his place for the remainder of the match.

The full extent of the injury is not yet known, with medical examinations expected to establish the nature of the problem and how long Hakimi could be unavailable.

Morocco already set to miss Hakimi

Hakimi is already suspended for Morocco’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Gabon and Lesotho.

The suspension stems from disciplinary sanctions related to the incidents surrounding the recent AFCON final against Senegal.

Morocco are scheduled to host Gabon on 25 September before travelling to South Africa to face Lesotho four days later.

As a result, Hakimi’s latest injury will initially be of particular concern to PSG, with further medical updates expected to provide clarity on his condition and recovery timeline.
