Gabon star Aubameyang makes La Liga history with five-game scoring streak for Deportivo La Coruna

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has continued his remarkable start to life at Deportivo La Coruna by making La Liga history after scoring in each of his team’s first five matches of the 2026/27 season.

The 37-year-old Gabonese striker found the back of the net again in Deportivo’s fifth-round clash against Getafe, extending his scoring streak and joining an exclusive group of players to have achieved the feat in the history of the Spanish top flight.

According to renowned football statistician MisterChip, Aubameyang has become only the 11th player in La Liga history to score in each of his club’s first five matches of a single season.

The achievement is particularly notable because the feat had not been recorded in La Liga for 17 years. The last player to accomplish it was Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, who scored in each of Barcelona’s opening five league matches during the 2009/10 season.

Aubameyang has now matched that remarkable sequence and written his name into the competition’s record books.

His latest goal also places him in an exclusive Deportivo club record. The Gabon international is only the third player in the club’s history to score in each of Deportivo’s first five La Liga matches in a season.

The previous players to achieve the feat were Pahiño during the 1954/55 campaign and Walter Pandiani in the 2003/04 season.

That means Deportivo are now the only club in La Liga history to have had three different players accomplish the remarkable scoring feat.

Aubameyang’s run began on the opening day against Elche, when he immediately made his presence felt in his return to Spanish football.

He followed that with goals against Málaga and Valencia before producing another decisive contribution against Villarreal in the fourth round.

His goal against Villarreal came late in the match and helped Deportivo secure a dramatic 3-2 victory, further underlining his importance to the team.

After the opening four matches, Aubameyang had already registered four goals and two assists, and his latest effort against Getafe has now extended his scoring run to five consecutive league games.

The Gabonese forward has quickly established himself as the central figure in Deportivo’s attack since returning to La Liga, despite being 37 years old.

Aubameyang is enjoying his second spell in Spanish football after previously representing Barcelona. His career has also taken him to several major European clubs, including Saint-Étienne, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Chelsea and Marseille, as well as Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah.

His return to Spain has so far proved highly successful, with the veteran striker showing that he still possesses the pace, movement and finishing ability to make a major impact at the highest level.

His scoring streak has not only helped Deportivo make a strong start to the campaign but has also placed him alongside some of the most notable goalscorers in La Liga history.

For Deportivo, having Aubameyang in this kind of form represents a major advantage as the season progresses.
