CAF Champions League: Enugu Rangers and APR FC reach second preliminary round

Two CAF Champions League first preliminary-round second legs were played on Friday 11 September, with Enugu Rangers qualifying after a penalty shoot-out against Sobemap and APR FC overturning a first-leg deficit to eliminate Aigles du Congo.

Enugu Rangers secured their place in the second preliminary round after drawing 1-1 with Sobemap in Lome. The result matched the score from the first meeting in Nigeria several days earlier.

The Beninese side scored first before Sobemap restored parity, leaving the tie level again after 90 minutes. With the two teams still inseparable on aggregate, the outcome was decided from the penalty spot.

Enugu Rangers prevailed 5-4 in the shoot-out to complete their qualification.

In Kigali, APR FC produced the night’s decisive comeback by beating Aigles du Congo 3-0. The Rwandan club had lost the first leg 1-0 in Lubumbashi, but turned the tie around with a convincing home victory.

APR FC therefore advanced with a 3-1 aggregate success, while Aigles du Congo were eliminated in the first preliminary round.
