Sevilla edge past Valencia to move third in La Liga

Sevilla moved temporarily into third place in La Liga after beating Valencia 1-0 in the fifth round of the 2026-27 season.

Juan Iglesias scored the only goal of the match in the 80th minute, heading home from Giorgi Kochorashvili’s precise cross.

The result kept Sevilla unbeaten after five league matches and gave them their third victory of the campaign. They now have 10 points, while Valencia remain bottom with one point after suffering their fourth defeat, alongside one draw.

Sevilla’s tally is their best after the opening five rounds of a La Liga season since 2019-20. Under Spanish manager Julen Lopetegui that season, they also collected 10 points from their first five matches.

Mali international Aliou Dieng completed the match for Valencia, making his second consecutive full appearance.

Sevilla will travel to face Deportivo La Coruna in the sixth round next Wednesday. Valencia host Deportivo Alaves on Thursday.
