Ghana’s Mohamed Salisu could return as Monaco face Strasbourg

Ghana international Mohamed Salisu could make his return to the AS Monaco matchday squad when they travel to face RC Strasbourg Alsace, as the defender continues his recovery from an ACL injury.

Salisu has been sidelined since suffering the injury last winter but has now resumed training as he works towards a return to competitive action.

Monaco head coach Filipe Luís could include the Ghanaian in his squad for the Strasbourg clash, although a final decision will depend on his fitness and readiness.

Salisu nearing Monaco return

Salisu’s potential return would provide a major boost for Monaco, who have been managing several fitness concerns within the squad.

The Ghana defender has been working his way back after a lengthy absence and could now be in contention for selection as Monaco prepare for their Ligue 1 assignment.

Coulibaly and Teze ruled out

Monaco will, however, be without Jordan Teze and Mamadou Coulibaly for the trip to Strasbourg.

Luís revealed that Teze has been playing with “pain” and will be given time to recover. The Dutch defender could also miss the subsequent match against RC Lens as Monaco look to avoid aggravating the problem.

Coulibaly’s injury is considered more serious, with the academy graduate suffering a quadriceps problem during the week.

The 24-year-old has been starting on the right side of Monaco’s attack this season and is expected to spend a longer period on the sidelines.

Balogun and Fati remain unavailable

Folarin Balogun and Ansu Fati are also not yet ready to return to competitive action, although both players took part in Friday’s training session.

Meanwhile, Salisu and Takumi Minamino, who are both recovering from ACL injuries sustained last winter, could be included in the matchday squad against Strasbourg.
