Fiorentina explain Fabio Grosso decision after poor Serie A start

Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici says Fabio Grosso was dismissed because he no longer showed confidence in the team or the club’s project.

Speaking to DAZN, Paratici said the decision followed a discussion with the former manager.

“The decision to dismiss Grosso came after a discussion with him, because he did not show any confidence in the team or the project,” said Paratici.

“We decided that we should not continue with this coach and then chose a different direction.”

Paratici added that the club would continue to make decisions based on what it considered best for Fiorentina at the time.

“We will always make the decisions that we believe are best for the club in that moment,” he said.

Fiorentina announced Grosso’s dismissal after the team lost each of its opening three Serie A matches. They scored one goal and conceded nine during that run.

The final of those games ended in a 2-1 defeat by Torino.

The club has appointed Paolo Vanoli as manager for a second spell. Vanoli was also brought in last season after Stefano Pioli, when Fiorentina were in a similar position and occupying relegation places.

Vanoli managed to keep Fiorentina in the top flight, guiding them to safety.

Under his leadership, Fiorentina finished last season in 15th place in Serie A with 42 points.

The club are currently bottom of the Serie A table without a point.
