RC Lens consider Bamo Meite as fitness concerns emerge

RC Lens are considering Marseille defender Bamo Meite as they look for a solution following Maik Nawrocki’s injury, but concerns over the Ivorian’s fitness could complicate any potential move.

The 24-year-old has the profile Lens are seeking: physical strength, versatility and familiarity with Ligue 1.

Meïté has emerged as a possible target for the Sang et Or, who need greater depth at centre-back. Yet the defender is reportedly not ready to sustain the intensity required for a full 90-minute Ligue 1 performance, even though his condition is improving.

That uncertainty presents an immediate issue for Lens. With Nawrocki sidelined, the club may prefer a player who can step directly into the side without needing a gradual fitness programme. Meïté could still become an attractive option if his physical situation progresses quickly.

Marseille coach Bruno Genesio is believed to value the defender, viewing him as someone who could help strengthen a back line that has not always been convincing. That stance may further affect the prospect of a transfer.

Lens must now balance their need for urgent cover against the potential upside of signing a player with proven qualities at the level. Interest in Meite remains one to watch, but his readiness will be a decisive factor in how the situation develops.
