Alidu Seidu: Nice loan move discussions with Rennes gather pace

Alidu Seidu could leave Stade Rennais on loan for OGC Nice, with talks between the two Ligue 1 clubs continuing over a deal that may include an option to buy.

The Ghana international is understood to be open to the move as he looks to regain regular first-team football. A source close to the 26-year-old, quoted by Footy-Africa, said discussions between the clubs were progressing, although no agreement has yet been reached.

Seidu is currently no longer involved with the Stade Rennais first-team squad and is training individually at home while a solution is sought. His representatives have confirmed that contact with Nice is advancing.

Nice explore a solution after injury

A temporary transfer has become the preferred option for Seidu, who attracted interest from Marseille and Strasbourg during the summer.

Strasbourg had reached an agreement with the player over personal terms, but the club was unable to meet Stade Rennais’ financial demands. Rennes were seeking 10 million euros for the defender.

The French transfer window closed on 1 September, but Nice can still consider signing a joker. That possibility has become more relevant following the serious knee injury suffered by Antoine Mendy.

Nice are reported to have made Seidu one of their priorities and are waiting for INEOS to approve the club’s budget before attempting to accelerate negotiations.

Seidu remains under contract with Stade Rennais until June 2029 and is valued at 6 million euros by Transfermarkt. A loan to Nice would allow him to remain in Ligue 1 while providing an opportunity to rebuild his season and gradually return to competitive football.

Stade Rennais are due to play their fourth league match of the season against OM soon. However, Seidu’s immediate future is expected to be determined by the ongoing discussions with Nice and the outcome of the club’s budget review.
