Black Stars hail Inaki Williams after international football retirement

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, has heaoed praise on Athletic Bilbao captain Inaki Williams following his decision to retire from international football.

Williams announced his retirement from the Black Stars on Friday, bringing an end to his four-year journey with the West African football powerhouse.

Reacting to his retirement, the Black Stars official social media page praised the forward’s for his commitment and dedication during his time with the national team.

“Thank you for your service to the Black Stars. We are grateful for the commitment, passion and pride you showed every time you represented Ghana. Wishing you the very best, always, Kwaku” the Black Stars wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Williams switched his international allegiance from Spain to Ghana in 2022 and went on to make 28 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring twice.

He represented Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, before featuring for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His retirement brings an emotional end to his international career, although he has pledged to continue supporting Ghana and the Black Stars from afar.

Williams will now focus entirely on his club career with Athletic Bilbao, where he remains an influential figure and captain.
