Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit still out for Hamburg vs Leipzig

Hamburger SV will remain without Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit for the away match against RB Leipzig as the young attacker continues his recovery from a syndesmosis ligament tear.

The 19-year-old Norwegian is making progress, but the weekend fixture has arrived too early for him to return to competitive action.

Head coach Merlin Polzin confirmed that Røssing-Lelesiit remains in the rehabilitation phase and is working toward a full return. “Alex Røssing-Lelesiit is still in build-up training,” Polzin said during his pre-match press conference.

There have been encouraging signs in recent days, with the player able to increase the intensity of his programme. However, HSV are unwilling to rush him back before he is fully prepared for the physical demands of Bundesliga football. “He has been able to take the next steps, but it is still too early for Leipzig,” the coach added.

Røssing-Lelesiit’s absence means Hamburg must again plan without one of their promising attacking options. The club will closely monitor his response to further training sessions before deciding when he can rejoin the matchday squad.

Polzin did not offer a specific return date, so the teenager’s availability beyond the Leipzig match remains unclear. For now, Hamburg’s priority is ensuring a safe, complete recovery rather than setting a premature deadline.
