Khaled Galal set to take charge of Ghazl El Mahalla after Ahmed Khattab dismissal

Khaled Galal is on the verge of being appointed Ghazl El Mahalla manager after Ahmed Khattab was dismissed because of the club’s poor results.

Galal and his backroom staff are expected to oversee training on Friday as Ghazl El Mahalla seek to recover from a difficult start to the Egyptian Premier League season.

The club’s new coaching team is expected to be:

– Khaled Galal – manager – Wael Kondy – assistant manager – Tawfik Saqr – assistant manager – Khaled Metwally – goalkeeper coach – Omar Saad – football director

The 59-year-old Galal has previously managed Zamalek, National Bank, Pharco and Libyan club Al-Tahaddy.

His most recent position was with Ismaily last season. He took charge during the final stage of the campaign, which ended with the club being relegated to the Professional League.

The appointment would represent the second managerial change in the Egyptian Premier League this season. It follows Emad El Nahhas leaving his role and Ahmed Sami being appointed manager of Al Masry.

Ghazl El Mahalla have taken just one point from their opening four matches, drawing with ENPPI before suffering defeats by Pyramids, Modern Sport and National Bank.

The result means the club have matched their worst start to a league campaign after four games since the 2015-16 season, when they were eventually relegated to the second tier.

Their poorest opening came in 2011-12, when they had no points, conceded 13 goals and scored only once.

Last season, Ghazl El Mahalla began the competition with four consecutive goalless draws, collecting four points under manager Alaa Abdel Aal.

The club currently sit bottom of the table with one point from four matches.

Galal’s first match in charge is expected to be against Zamalek next Wednesday in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
