Konyaspor want to sign Emam Ashour after Mostafa Mohamed arrival
Konyaspor football director Ali Kamjoz says the Turkish club remain interested in signing Al-Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour after completing the transfer of Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed from Nantes.
Mohamed joined Konyaspor during the summer transfer window after the club identified him as a player capable of adding quality and experience to their attack.
“We confirmed that Mostafa Mohamed possesses high quality and efficiency and has a professional playing style,” Kamjoz told Al-Nahar.
“We see him as a very good player who plays properly with us and will be a complementary factor to the group.”
Konyaspor also explored a deal for Ashour but were unable to reach an agreement with Al-Ahly, who were determined to retain the midfielder.
Kamjoz said the Turkish club could revive their interest in the future.
“We saw through our monitoring that Emam Ashour is an excellent player and will be a good addition to us and the team,” he said.
“We will try again and hope to sign him from Al-Ahly.”
Kamjoz also dismissed reports linking Konyaspor with a move for Al-Ahly defender Ahmed Fatouh.
“There were rumours that Konyaspor negotiated with Ahmed Fatouh, but this matter was completely closed,” he said.
“We never made him an offer to sign him.”
Konyaspor are also set to face Trabzonspor, who have Egyptian star Mohamed Salah in their squad, in a fixture that could see the two Egypt internationals go head-to-head.
Kamjoz expects an entertaining encounter but insists Konyaspor will be targeting victory.
“We think the match will be very good, and we will be facing important players, both from the same country, Egypt, who play exceptionally well,” he said.
“We will be happy to see Mohamed Salah against Mostafa Mohamed because the match will be very exciting, but we will play to win and we are capable of doing so.”
Kamjoz also welcomed Salah’s arrival in Turkish football, saying the former Liverpool forward had made a significant impact.
“Mohamed Salah joining the Turkish league has had a great impact,” he added.
“He represents a great addition for us in Turkey and we hope that he will stay in Turkey for a long time.”
He also expressed his confidence that Mostafa Mohamed would prove entertaining for Konyaspor supporters.
“Mostafa Mohamed will entertain us when we see him on the field,” Kamjoz said.
