Mamelodi Sundowns discover Champions League title defence opponents
Mamelodi Sundowns will begin their CAF Champions League title defence against Angolan side Wiliete SC in the second preliminary round.
Sundowns were seeded into the second round and learned their potential opponents during last month’s CAF draw, with the South African champions drawn to face the winners of the tie between Wiliete and Seychelles club Foresters FC.
Wiliete took a major step towards securing the tie with a 4-0 victory in the first leg last week, with former Orlando Pirates winger Gilberto Miguel among the scorers.
They completed the job in the second leg, securing a 5-0 aggregate victory to book their place in the next round.
Wiliete will now face Sundowns, with the first leg scheduled to take place between 16 and 18 October. The return leg will be played between 23 and 25 October.
Sundowns will be aiming to retain the continental title after their success in the previous campaign.
The 16 teams that progress from the second preliminary round will advance to the Champions League group stage, which is scheduled to begin in November 2026.
