Barcelona salary cap rises to €582.769m but Real Madrid remain clear leaders

Barcelona’s maximum La Liga squad-cost limit has increased by almost €150m to €582.769m for the 2026-27 season, reflecting continued progress in the club’s economic recovery.

The figure, published in La Liga’s latest update and reported by Sport, is up from €432.807m. It gives Barcelona an additional €149.962m in financial room, representing a 34.6% increase on the previous review.

Barcelona’s limit had been raised to €432.8m in March, following the conclusion of the January transfer window. That represented an increase of €81.5m from the position recorded by the club in September 2025.

The new total places Barcelona second in the latest league rankings, although they remain some distance behind Real Madrid. Real Madrid’s squad-cost limit is €832.786m.

Atletico Madrid are third on €361.287m, followed by Villarreal on €170.564m and Athletic Bilbao on €139.203m.

The increase is more than an accounting development for Barcelona. It indicates that the club is meeting the requirements of La Liga’s financial controls and is now able to support greater spending on its squad within the competition’s regulations.

That progress has also had a direct effect on the team. Barcelona were able to conduct an ambitious summer transfer window, strengthening their squad significantly and giving head coach Hansi Flick a wider range of options.

The ability to sign high-level players and build greater depth has therefore not come at the expense of economic supervision. Instead, the latest limit suggests Barcelona have improved their financial position while also raising the sporting standard of the squad.

La Liga has clarified that the maximum cost of a club’s sporting squad does not consist solely of player wages. The calculation also includes variable payments, social security contributions, bonuses, the amortisation of transfer fees and certain expenses linked to operations.

The €582.769m limit should not be interpreted as money Barcelona are required to spend, or as a transfer budget available in full for new signings. Rather, it provides an important indication of the club’s current financial capacity to maintain its existing squad.
